Rainbow Pompom Necklace Craft

My daughters love rainbows, necklaces, and pompoms. So of course I combined them in to one completely fabulous project. These Rainbow Pompom Necklaces haven't left my girls' necks since we made them several days ago. They've received loads of compliments at the grocery store, from their friends, and at the library. These necklaces are perfect for welcoming spring or celebrating St. Patrick's Day, too! Grab a bag of pompoms and get to work!

Gather And Prepare Materials

You need pompoms, a needle, thread, and scissors. That's it! My daughters are almost 5 and 6.5; I felt comfortable with them using a real needle. A dull needle or yarn needle probably won't go through the pompoms easily, so this is a project to save for when you kids are past toddlerhood!

Pull off a length of thread that is double what you'll need to fit around your child's head. Since thread isn't stretchy, make sure it's big enough! Tie a knot at one end so that your thread is doubled.

Start Threading

Show your child how to thread the pompoms with the needle. They'll need to go straight through. The middle of each pompom is nice and firm and the thread will hold there. If they end up threading off to the side, the pompom isn't dense enough and they'll end up falling off.

Since these were rainbow pompom necklaces, the girls practiced threading the pompoms in rainbow order.

The knot at the end of the thread isn't really big enough to keep the pompoms from slipping off the end. Just don't push them all the way off the string!
