If your family is like mine, then you've got loads of pool noodles around during the summer time. They make a great pool toy, but did you know they also make a great painting tool? Use them for Pool Noodle Painting! They're cheap, you can cut them into loads of different shapes, and they hang on to paint really well. Grab some pool noodles for this fun summer process art activity!

Gather Materials
Gather some pool noodles (find them at a dollar store!), children's paint, and a roll of large paper.
Cut the noodles into small pieces. I cut some as plain cylinders, and also cut some of those cylinders into halves and quarters. I left some cylinders fairly long so that the girls could use them as rolling pins.
Squirt some paint onto paper plates and you're ready to begin!
Time To Paint!
Dip the pool noodles into the paint and onto the paper!
You can simply press the noodle on the paper to make little circular prints.
Or get some paint onto the sides of the noodle and use it as a rolling pin.
Lena loved the texture of the paint when she used the noodles this way!
Maggie did some fantastic color mixing with her noodles! She swirled some pink and blue paint together using a cut side of her noodle. She was tickled with the bright purple she made!
Let your children paint away! They can dip, press, swirl, smush, and stamp. Use large or small pieces of noodles.
My favorite thing about process art is that it allows children to freely explore materials and
techniques. I'm always surprised with the things my girls come up with,
and I just love watching them express their creativity!
