Jack-O-Lantern Paper Chain

I'm a huge fan of simple paper crafts that require only a few materials. This Jack-O-Lantern Paper Chain is a perfect example- kids LOVE seeing how all the pumpkins are connected when you unfold the paper. And the simple circle shape is easy enough for most kids to trace and cut out. Make some for Halloween this year!

Gather Your Materials

Easy! All you need for this project is orange construction paper, scissors, a pencil, markers, and a drinking glass or other circle template.

Fold and Cut Your Paper

Begin by cutting the construction paper in half lengthwise, making a long strip. If your child is going to be doing the cutting, you can fold it to make a crease line for them to follow or draw a line in the center with pencil.

Next, take one of the strips of paper and fold it into quarters. We started by folding it in half and then folded the edges back again toward the center, but the direction of the folds doesn't really matter. Just be sure to end up with four thicknesses of paper.

Trace or draw a circle onto your folded paper.

Make sure that the edges of the circle overlap the edges of the paper stack, leaving about an inch where the folds will stay connected. Add a stem. I went over my circle in marker so you could see it clearly, but pencil is a better choice.

Cut out the pumpkin shape, being sure to leave the edges connected. My six-year-old could manage cutting through four sheets of paper at once, but my four-year-old had trouble.
