My daughters love anything sparkly and shiny, so when I saw enormous bags of wintry rhinestones at my local craft store on after-Christmas clearance I had to get them. I knew that we could put them to good use! Making these rhinestone snowflakes was great fine motor work. We didn't focus on sorting or patterning the individual gems, but it you certainly could to add an element of math learning, as well. Here's how to make your own!

Materials For Rhinestone Snowflakes
- white cardstock and access to printer
- clear, silver, and blue rhinestones (ours were from a bulk bag at our craft store, but this looks like a good mix if you need to order online)
- white school glue
How To Make Your Rhinestone Snowflakes
Print some snowflakes on cardstock. I used the printable snowflakes found on What Mommy Does but you can look around and fine anything you like. Squeeze glue onto the snowflake and place rhinestones. Keep going until the snowflake is complete!
Squeezing the glue is great for developing hand strength and for working on precision. 3-year-old Maggie asked for some help in squeezing her glue.
Placing the rhinestones is is more fine motor work. Sorting through them, choosing the right one, and putting them in the right place is a great challenge for those little fingers!
If you wanted, you could ask your child to create a pattern of colors or sizes in order to have some math practice as well.
