Insect Sensory Bin

Oh, how my girls love sensory bins! And, oh, how I love how long they keep my girls occupied! This insect sensory bin for our Bugs, Bees, And Butterflies Preschool Theme Week has been lots of fun, and the girls have requested to play with it several times. I pulled several components from other bins, as well as a few extra goodies.

Materials For An Insect Sensory Bin

In addition to the base of black beans, it includes:

pebbles (craft store)
bug catcher box (Dollar Tree)
Gator Grabber Tweezers
Safari Insect Toob (I get mine from Joann for around $5 with a 50% coupon)
Safari Flower Toob (also from Joann)
flat marbles

I also had our standard sensory bin tools nearby.

I love watching the girls play to see what they'll come up with.

Maggie was trying SO hard to get these chopsticks to hold the marbles. Her little fingers were working on their super fine motor skills.

Cupcake, anyone?

The girls worked together to use the tweezers to fill up the bug box. We talked about the different kinds of insects as they worked.

Another fun game we played was to bury all the bugs in the beans and then search for them with the tongs, and then retrieve them. The black bugs were especially tricky!

So Maggie just had to dive in to find them!

And the fun just went on and on and on!
