If you're having a Bird Theme Week of Preschool, then you'll be talking about nests! Why not make your own? We crafted these Dried Pasta Bird's Nests with simple materials -- they were super fun to make and turned out great. Here's how to make your own!
Gather your materials. You'll need uncooked spaghetti (about 1 ounce per nest that you plan to make), yarn in natural colors, scissors, a plastic baggie, wax paper, and a small shallow bowl.

Start by preparing your nest materials. Put the uncooked spaghetti in a plastic baggie and crush it into small bits. This part is GREAT muscle work for little fingers. I told my girls that these were the sticks for the birds' nests.
Pour in your pasta and yarn, and mix them together well. Pour glue over top. You'll want enough glue to thoroughly coat all the little bits. It took more than I anticipated-- the yarn soaks up a lot.
Mix it all up thoroughly. My girls don't like to get their hands messy, so I let them put their hands into plastic baggies and use that to get the pasta and yarn thoroughly coated and mixed. After everything is coated in glue, press the mixture down into the bottom of the bowl, and partially up the sides, forming a nest shape. Set the bowl aside to dry.
Let it dry. And dry. And dry. After about 48 hours, I was able to take the nests out of the bowls (waxed paper still attached) and turn them upside down to increase air circulation around the whole thing. It took another couple of days before they were dry enough to slowly peel the waxed paper away.
Add a little bird (you can find them in the floral department at a craft store) and let your kids enjoy their nests!
