What a fun theme! You can't NOT smile when you're working with rainbows and colors all week! Here's what we got into during our Colors and Rainbows Weekly Home Preschool Theme, now that spring is finally starting to spring. At the time we completed these activities, Lena was 4.5 and Maggie was almost 3.

Rainbow Yarn Wrapping
This Rainbow Yarn Wrapping Craft is great for developing fine motor skills. It's easy to set up, easy to clean up, and pretty to look at!
Rainbow Weaving
This week I was also inspired to let Lena try a simple craft that I remembered doing from my childhood. Rainbow Paper Weaving seemed perfectly suited for a rainbow week!
Rainbow Snack
Isn't this painted rainbow toast from Learn Play Imagine beautiful? Your kiddos will love making their very own snack masterpiece! And it's so simple and easy to set up, too!
Rainbow Spin Art
So we may have gone a bit overboard on the crafts this week! But, c'mon-- what else were we to do for rainbow week? I think my girls' favorite project was definitely this Rainbow Spin Art!
Sort and Count Activity
I love how this activity from The Imagination Tree focuses on TWO critical preschool math skills. Your toddler or preschooler will get practice in both sorting and counting with these quick and easy Math Bottles.
Color Cubes Gross Motor Game
If you're looking for a way to get your kids moving, you'll want to read about this simple Color Cubes game. We've played it several times this week (at the girls' request) and each time it got their blood pumping and put smiles on their faces.
Science Kit
Our science for the week was really easy, since we just used this Mysteries of Rainbows Science Kit from the Magic School Bus.
Sometimes its just easier to get a whole kit already prepared and with all the materials gathered, isn't it? This kit contained some fun experiments, but I think the biggest hits were the colored translucent paddles that we held up in the window and with a flashlight in a dark bathroom. The girls were able to clearly see how color mixing worked!
Lena also enjoyed making this little color wheel top, and the girls have both really enjoyed the rainbow prism glasses.
Some of the explanations and terminology were above a preschool comprehension level, but the exposure to the ideas is important, as is getting kids excited about science!
Music
You definitely want to check out these adorable color songs from Teaching Mama. They're quick and simple, but will make your little ones smile!
We also did a LOT of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" singing this week (my girls love Dorothy)!
Picture Books
We read and enjoyed so many bright and cheerful books this week! Before you make a trip to the library, check out my list of Books About Colors and Rainbows.
Rhymes With Red
I played this fun little rhyming game with the girls this week. First I made a list of words that rhyme with all of the color words. Bed, fed, and wed rhyme with red, for example. For orange and purple I used words that sounded similar, since there aren't good rhymes. Then I gathered little objects from around the house that represented those rhyming words.
I had the girls sit in front of me and gave then little squares of colored paper. I held up the rhyming word objects (telling them what they represented, if necessary), and they chose the color word that rhymed and held up the appropriate card.
Some of them were easy and some were pretty tricky! It was a good way to work on rhymes and similar sounding words.
Printables
My girls both LOVE the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," so they were thrilled when I showed them these rainbow printables from 1+1+1=1. Most of them were at a perfect level for Maggie. She especially loves the Do-a-Dot pages and the cutting practice.
