How To Make A Shamrock Garland
Start by making some shamrocks. I used this printable shamrock from Enchanted Learning and chose the largest size available. This allowed me to fit 2 shamrocks on a single piece of construction paper. If you're planning to laminate them later, you may want to choose a smaller size-- I was only able to fit one in each laminating page.
Cut out the template, trace it onto construction paper, and cut out 20 shamrocks (stack your paper to be efficient). I used 2 shades of green. You could also buy die cut paper or foam shamrocks and skip all the tracing and cutting!
Write the letters to spell "Happy St. Patrick's Day" on your shamrocks. Leave a couple of shamrocks blank to be the spaces between the words.
At this point I chose to laminate our shamrocks. I wanted for them to be durable, and to not shed glitter all over our house! I was a bit concerned about how the laminator would handle the thick glitter letters, but they did just fine! Whether you've laminated the shamrocks or not, the next step is to punch two small holes in the top of each one. Your child can help with this, though their hands may not be quite strong enough!
String 'em up! As we did it, we practiced letter recognition with my youngest. I asked her to find certain letters from among the pile, or held them up and asked her to identify the letter. With my oldest, we practiced how to spell the words as we sounded them out together.
Hang them up to add some Irish flare to your home!
