Working with yarn is excellent fine motor practice for little hands. It also feels soft and is sort of soothing to work with-- that's one reason why people love to knit or crochet! These yarn wrapped snowflakes are beautiful, and will let your kiddo have some great find motor practice, as well! They'd make a great addition to your winter preschool theme unit!

Draw simple snowflake shapes on thin cardboard or boxboard. You basically need to make a six-armed asterix, then embelish from there. My 4-year-old could do the simple shape that you see here. More complex shapes should probably be saved for older children. Cut them out!
Tape an end of your yarn to the back. I used metallic yarns so that our snowflakes would be sparkly.
Start wrapping!
Keep wrapping!
When you've finished, cut the yarn and tie a little knot on the back. Aren't they nice?
