Sometimes it can be tough to keep kids active during the winter months. When it's not easy to just pop out the front door for a walk or some bicycles on the sidewalk, you've got to get creative with indoor activities!
We played this VERY active, gross motor, winter themed game this week and it was super fun! I'm calling it the Get Ready For Snow! Relay.

Start by gathering your kids' winter gear. For each of my girls, I gathered one pair of socks, a pair of slippers (since we don't wear shoes in our house), sweater, jacket, heavy coat, scarf, hat, and earmuffs. Just make sure to have the same amount of 'stuff' for each child. Make one pile for each child at one end of a long open stretch of room or hallway.
Have your kids start at their piles. At 'GO!', they'll run across your room, tag a designated point on the far side of the room or hallway, and then run back to the pile. If you have older children, they could run some kind of circuit through the house. Once they're back to the pile, they'll put on one article of winter gear. You can station yourself at the piles to help as needed. Have your kids keep running back and forth, adding one layer at a time, until their piles are gone!
When Lena was done, she was huffing and puffing (and HOT!). Maggie didn't want to play very much because she didn't want "all that stuff piled on me." But she did run around with her earmuffs on!
