I want to share this super simple preschool or kindergarten Christmas Literacy Game with you! Even though the holidays are here, it doesn't mean that you can't squeeze in some learning fun with your kids! If you have a stocking, a piece of paper and a marker, and a house or classroom full of tiny kid stuff, you're ready go to!

Start by writing the alphabet on a piece of paper. You can even have your child do it, to get in a bit of handwriting practice.
Next, give your child the alphabet paper, a large empty stocking, and a marker. Let them go on a scavenger hunt around the house or classroom looking for objects that start with each letter. When they find something, they'll drop it into the stocking!
They'll mark off each letter as they find an object that corresponds. It helps to use a clipboard so that you can easily carry your paper around as you search.
I helped my 4 1/2 year old brainstorm things that she could find when she got stuck on tricky letters. We ended up with different figurines from play sets, pretend food, craft supplies, and letter puzzle pieces for the really difficult ones. Here you'll see our valentine pencil, watermelon, xylophone puzzle piece, yo-yo, and zebra.
When you've marked off each letter, dump out the stocking and set all your objects out in alphabetical order!
