It's time for another Read and Play! For Halloween, some of my blogging buddies and I got together to bring you a great series of crafts, learning activities, and games related to our favorite Halloween books. This time, we're tackling Christmas!

One of our favorite Christmas books is How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss. Here's how we made this super cute Grinch out of cardboard tubes (that's the polite term for toilet paper rolls). If the idea of using toilet paper rolls gives you the willies, or if your school prohibits it, you can substitute paper towel rolls, cut to size.
Start by painting one cardboard tube green.
Paint another one red. Lena's hand hasn't disappeared-- it's inside the tube!
Let them dry. Then, cut the red tube into a triangley shape. You want it close to a single point towards the top, and just cut open (without any of the circumferance actually being cut away) at the bottom. This will make the Grinch's hat fit snugly on his head. You can see the shape in the next picture.
Glue a row of cotton balls along the bottom, and one on the top.
Draw a Grinch face. This is probably a grown-up job. You can do it, I promise! Practice a couple of times on a sheet of paper and then just go for it.
He's done! Now all all he needs is a little friend. To make his pup, Max, start by painting a cardboard tube brown. Add construction paper ears and twist a couple of pipe cleaners into 'antler shape'.
There's the two friends, all ready to ruin Christmas!
