We love a good garland! My kids love helping to decorate our home for different holidays, and they feel so proud when we decorate with things that they have made. Garlands are a great way to do just that, and are easy to adapt for many different holidays or occasions. Here's how we made a simple and easy Gingerbread Garland.

Take a several pieces of brown construction paper and cut each piece into eighths. Trace a gingerbread cookie cutter and then cut out the shapes. We made both boys and girls. Give your children markers to decorate the gingerbread boys and girls. Older children can use Sharpies, which will make a strong, vibrant color. Younger children should use regular markers.
My girls (and their cousins) were not much interested in decorating them as 'traditional' gingerbread figures. No worries! Let them decorate them however they like!
After your gingerbread people are all decorated, use a hole punch to make 2 small holes in each boy or girl. You can do them up towards the neck, or in the hands. Your children can then help to thread a length of yarn or twine through the gingerbread boys and girls, making a garland. Hang up somewhere for your children to be proud of.
As you can see, the 'grown-up' version of this craft looks pretty different from the 2-year-old & 4-year-old version, but I think they're both beautiful!
